The story
Philasanda at Umzumbe Point.
Philasanda has been selected by UGU Surfriders to represent the district at the 2026 South African Junior Surfing Championships at Lower Point, Jeffreys Bay, running 29 September to 3 October 2026.
This is the first time in many years that UGU is sending a full team to the national Junior Champs — and Philasanda is on it.
Philasanda surfs out of Umzumbe, on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast. The Championships are a self-funded tour: every selected surfer has to cover their own way — travel down to the Eastern Cape, a week of accommodation, team coaching and supervision, team kit, and Surfing SA fees. For a lot of families on this coast, that bill is the difference between a selection letter and actually making the start line.
That is where Umzumbe Surf Club comes in. We are raising R20,000 to get Philasanda to J-Bay. Funds raised here go towards Philasanda's place on the team.
