The story

Dumisani at Umzumbe Point.

Umzumbe Surf Club would not exist without Dumisani Dennis Radebe. Everyone here calls him the pied piper. Born and raised in Umzumbe, he is the club's head coach — and if you walk down to the Blue Flag beach on any given day, you'll find him there, working as the head lifeguard.

For years, Dumisani has been a mentor and caregiver to the local kids who spend their holidays and weekends on the beach — all of it as a volunteer. He starts them in the water teaching them to swim, then how to read and ride the shore break, and finally how to surf. When the club travels to competitions, he's the coach in their corner.

Now it's Dumisani's turn. He's heading to Jeffreys Bay with the surfers he's spent years preparing, and we want to make sure their coach is right there beside them. Help us get Coach Dumisani to J-Bay.

Active campaign

Coach Dumisani is heading to the 2026 South African Junior Surfing Championships in Jeffreys Bay (29 Sept – 3 Oct 2026) alongside the surfers he has spent years preparing. We are raising R20,000 to cover his travel, accommodation and costs so the club's head coach is in his surfers' corner when it matters most.
